| Mar. 30th, 2007 03:43 pm Braniac Attacks Welcome to the first entry. I got words. Thursday is a rather inauspicious day for such a thing. I'm scribbling in a sketchbook and "Superman the Animated Series" is on in the background. Ma Kent just took a shotgun to Braniac. Cue Shirley Walker music.
I'm on the 8th chapter of my contribution to the realm of faerie tale literature. Needs a little polish, of course, but all that means is I need to spend a little bit more time being self-critical. I'd like this to be my full time job, but I haven't even proven that I can make money at it just yet. So, as that goes, I'm keeping an eye out for paid work.
Hung up some new pictures in the CaribbeanKangaroo.com gallery. Also re-visiting a few old ones to make suitable again. Cartooning is a tough life, but I tried the alternative, (e.g., not-cartooning), and it's just not as fulfilling.
Superman is a great modern myth. I say "myth" in the definition of "Modern Hero-Story" . The first definition for "myth" I ever recieved (sometime back in 4th or 5th grade) was "a story that is created to describe the way something is." Though it's a shame that creating a "myth" these days becomes unlikely...
[I take a moment to check the mail...is it coincidence that my replacement discs for the "Ultimate Superman Collection" arrive while I'm writing my Superman-worship during this LiveJournal maiden voyage? Or have I summoned them through my Supes-worship? At any rate--my collection is now complete. I can now bask in the Saturday-matinee schlock that is Richard Lester's "Superman III". Richard Pryor as Uber-programmer Gus Gorman. A leap of logic that would not be undone until 2006's "Firewall", when Harrison Ford instilled the same suspension of disbelief in moviegoers everywhere. But with 79% less humor.]
But while I can write pages and pages of Super-drool, (which, by the way, is a phrase I'm never going to use again outside of LiveJournal), what I can't do is write about Green Lantern. I mean, what the hell...Green freakin' Lantern. Why Green? Why Lantern? If Green Lantern fought the Silver Surfer, who would win? My bet's on Green Lantern, but as I said, I can't write about that. I can't even tell you who the current Green Lantern of this particular galaxy IS. Kyle Rainer? Hal Jordan? Guy Gardner? John Stewart? (Who is not the host of the Daily Show--that's Jon Stewart, but let me tell you, The Daily Show would be almost 90% Greener with John Stewart. But probably only 10% more Lanterny.)
Off I go. Stay in touch, won't you? --Steve. Current Location: Floor, on Laptop. Current Music: Shirley Walker
